Selection Criteria

The following selection criteria were developed by the Boone County Indicators Committee. Indicators were chosen that met most or all of the criteria.

Important/Meaningful: measures a condition of target population of interest to agencies or the public; community wide concerns
Valid/Reliable: sound methodology, accurate, measurable, accessible, useful for grants and planning, from a reputable source
Geographic Comparisons: localized, Boone County, Missouri, National Data
Timely: historical and future data, minimal lag, trendable
Facilitates the Establishment & Evaluation of Policy Decisions: influence decision-makers, used to effect change, may be used to change behavior/funding
Understandable: easy to interpret, meaningful units reported, applicable to laypersons, communicable.
